Our Impact

The Need is Real. So is the Response.

THE LANDSCAPE

Why This Work Matters Now

The numbers tell a story that's easy to overlook from the outside.

22% of youth in the United States ages 14–24 are immigrants themselves or live in immigrant families.

45% of all refugees admitted to the U.S. in 2023 were children under 18.

10% of youth across North America are migrants — a population that continues to grow.

Behind each of these numbers are real consequences: interrupted education, acculturation stress, and the invisible weight of anxiety, depression, and undiagnosed PTSD. Without intervention, these challenges compound. With the right support, they become the foundation for something else entirely.

Matching Need With the Right Support

Each of our six pathways was built to respond to a specific challenge facing refugee and immigrant youth:

Interrupted education is met by our Education Pathway — tutoring, college readiness, and academic scaffolding that ensures no student falls through the cracks.

Isolation and invisible trauma are met by our Mental Health, Mentorship, and Leadership pathways — consistent, trusting relationships that give youth a safe place to be known.

The challenge of building identity in a new community is met by our Sports and Arts pathways — doorways to connection, self-expression, and belonging.

This isn't six disconnected programs. It's one coordinated response to the real, documented needs of the youth we serve.

Investment That Compounds

When you support Roots International, the return isn't abstract. It's a young person who stays in school instead of falling behind. A family that has someone to call when navigating a new system feels impossible. A teenager who finds, through sports or art or mentorship, that they belong somewhere.

Multiply that across Spokane and Eastern Washington, year after year, and the impact compounds — for the youth we serve today, and for the community they will help build tomorrow.
